How to get here
From the south:
- From the A1(M) follow the A194 to South Shields
- Turn right at the 7th roundabout (next to Port of Tyne Authority) onto Hudson Street (B1302)
- Continue for 350m and turn right into Heddon Way, follow the road around and you will see the Gatehouse ahead of you
- From the A19 take the exit at the Lindisfarne Roundabout (A194)
- Turn right at the roundabout onto the A194 and continue, turn right at the 5th roundabout (next to Port of Tyne Authority) onto Hudson Street (B1302)
- Continue for 350m and turn right into Heddon Way, follow the road around and you will see the Gatehouse ahead of you
From the north (Tyne Tunnel):
- On leaving the Tyne Tunnel, take 2nd exit along A185
- Turn left at the next roundabout onto the A194
- Turn right at the next roundabout (next to Port of Tyne Authority) onto Hudson Street (B1302)
- Continue for 350m and turn right into Heddon Way, follow the road around and you will see the Gatehouse ahead of you
By rail:
Nearest mainline rail station is Newcastle.
You can access the Middlefields site by following road links from Newcastle (A184) to turn off for South Shields (A194).

Information about the site
- Middlefields is a no smoking site. Please do not smoke within the site boundary
- The speed limit for the site is 10mph and this must be strictly observed. Please also observe any traffic light signals that are in operation around the site. Please be aware of other moving vehicles, fork lift trucks etc around the site
- The site has a one way route and these routes are shown on the plan of the site
- There is a safe pedestrian route around the site and this does mean that people will need to cross roads at designated points / pedestrian crossings. Please be aware of these throughout the site
- Mobile phones are not to be used whilst driving around the site unless a properly fitted handsfree system is in use
- When leaving the site please note the barrier exit system. Do not under any circumstances tailgate the vehicle in front. If you cause damage to the barrier system you will be charged for the repairs. The council does not accept any liability for damage in this situation
- If you contravene any other the above:
- And you work for the Council, it may also result in disciplinary action
- And you are a visitor to the site, you may be refused admission to the site in the future
