Welcome and introduction
- The Chair welcomed both Board members and wider external partners to the meeting, which would take the form of an interactive workshop.
- The Chair provided the context to the creation of the Board and explained that the main aim of the Board is to help shape the Jarrow Town Plan and Investment Plan which need to be submitted to Government by 1 August 2024, as well as the community consultation to start in the Autumn.
Delcarations of interest
- No declarations of interests were declared.
- Action: The Chair reminded those who have not yet filled a form to fill one out and that these would be published on the Council's website shortly.
Aims of the workshop
- Due to the pre-election period, any resident consultation could not be carried out before the Government 1st August deadline. Given this fact, and the need to have something to submit to Government, the Board agreed at the first meeting for independent facilitators to speak to each Board member, and wider partners, to identify key priorities and themes.
- This would help shape the plans to be submitted as well as the framework for the community consultation. The facilitator fed back initial findings which would be shared formally for the next Board meeting.
- The 10 year plan and 3 year business plan will be drafted by Council officers using these findings and the output of the workshop.
- This will be a high level submission with key themes identified. The consultation with residents would then help the Board to drill into specifics. Values and ideals were discussed in relation this.
- Discussion also focussed upon the potential for a new name for the Board.
Workshop discussion
- Discussed opportunities and challenges, strengths and assets in Jarrow and started to craft a vision statement for the 10 year Town Plan.
- Action: It was agreed that officers would take the outputs and present this back to the board in July.
Conclusion, next meeting, and AOB
- Next meeting confirmed as Monday 15 July 2024 at Jarrow Focus.
- In the meantime, the Executive Group will meet to monitor progress at the end of June.
