Intelligence Update - December 2023

The latest update of the Health Inequalities dashboard includes data for five indicators. This includes:

In 2022 / 23, the percentage of 16 to 17 year olds not in education, employment, or training (NEET) or whose activity is unknown was 5.9% in South Tyneside. This was not significantly different to the North East and England, which were both 5.2%.
In 2022 / 23, the gap in employment rate between those with a physical or mental long-term health condition and the overall employment rate was 14.2% in South Tyneside. This was not significantly different to the North East (13.7%) and England (10.4%).
In 2022, the prevalence of smoking in adults was 15.2% in South Tyneside. This was not significantly different to the North East (13.1%) and England (12.7%).

Several indicators in the Palliative and End of Life Care Profile were updated to 2022. This includes:

In 2022, the percentage of all deaths that occur in a hospital was 48% in South Tyneside.This was significantly above both the North East (45.1%) and England (43.4%).
In 2022, the percentage of deaths that occurred at home was 31.9% in South Tyneside, which was the highest in the region. This was also significantly above the North East (27.5%) and England (28.7%).
In 2022, the percentage of deaths which occurred in care homes was 17.5% in South Tyneside, which was the lowest in the region. This was significantly below the North East (21.7%) and England (20.5%) rates.
In 2022, the percentage of deaths that occurred in a hospice was only 0.7%. This was the lowest in the region. This was significantly below the North East (2.8%) and England (4.7%) rates.

The Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF) dashboard was updated for 2022 / 23. The updated data includes:

In 2022 / 23, The social care related quality of life score for South Tyneside was 18.8. This was a lower score than the North East (19.4) and England (19).
In 2022 / 23, the percentage of people who use services who reported that they had as much social contact as they would like was 44.5% in South Tyneside. This was not significantly different to England (44.4%) but was lower than the North East (49.1%)
In 2022 / 23, the percentage of adults with learning disabilities who are in paid employment was 4.4%. This was a higher rate than the North East (3.5%) but was lower than England (4.8%).
In 2022 / 23, the percentage of people who use services who say that those services have made them feel safe and secure was 87% in South Tyneside. This was lower than the North Eat (90%) and marginally lower than England (87.1%).
