Course aims

  • To give participants an opportunity to look in closer detail at the 10 areas of abuse included in the Care Act
  • To equip participants with the skills and knowledge to recognise potential abuse
  • To provide the information to be able to make an appropriate safeguarding referral

Course learning outcomes

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Define adult abuse
  • Recognise the ten categories of abuse
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Handle disclosure and take immediate action
  • Know when to report abuse
  • Understand capacity, consent and confidentiality in the safeguarding process
  • Understand South Tyneside's Safeguarding Adults Procedures
