Last Chance to Nominate Local Heroes for a #LoveSouthTyneside Award
With only five weeks left to go until the first ever live #LoveSouthTyneside Award ceremony at the Customs House in South Shields, local people are being encouraged to get their nominations in for unsung heroes across the Borough.
Now in its fourth year, the Awards have gone from strength to strength. Nominations showcase the amazing community spirit that exists in South Tyneside, highlighting those unsung heroes who help others without expecting recognition.
Last year's virtual ceremony in 2021 saw Oliver Nicholson win the judges' hearts with his actions to support elderly neighbours during the Covid lockdowns.
The #LoveSouthTyneside Awards celebrate civic pride and community spirit in South Tyneside.
Nominations are welcomed from anyone and can be for any individual, organisation or group who has gone above and beyond for their community.
Councillor Pat Hay, the Mayor of South Tyneside, said: "The #LoveSouthTyneside Awards are all about celebrating our unsung heroes - the people who make our lives richer from the little selfless acts that they do on a day-to-day basis. From people who do regular litter picks to those who look out for their neighbours. South Tyneside is bursting with community heroes who go above and beyond to make the Borough such a fantastic place to live.
"We are extremely grateful to all those who have made, and still are making, a huge difference within South Tyneside. If you know of someone who deserves a special 'thank you' for their amazing work, then please let us know and we can help to show them just how valued they really are."
Everyone nominated receives a letter from the Mayor and a #LoveSouthTyneside pin badge to say thank you for their outstanding work within the community, while the ceremony will showcase those outstanding people and groups selected by a judging panel.
This year, a partnership between South Tyneside Council and The Customs House is bringing a first-ever live ceremony. Thanks to this collaboration, all those nominated will receive free tickets for themselves and two guests to attend the ceremony.
People are encouraged to make their nomination by the extended closing date of Sunday 19 June 2022.
