HIV diagnosis rate per 100,000

This indicator release shows the rate of HIV diagnosis in the borough per 100,000 in 2023:

  • It shows that South Tyneside has a rate of 2.7 per 100,000 which is significantly better than the England rate of 10.4 per 100,000.

HIV diagnosed prevalence rate per 1,000 (Aged 15 to 59)

This indicator release shows the number of people (aged 15 to 59 years) living with a diagnosed HIV infection and accessing HIV care at an NHS service in the UK and who are resident in England:

  • South Tyneside has a rate of 0.92 per 1,000 people aged 15 to 59 that are diagnosed with HIV. This is significantly better than the England rate of 2.4 per 1,000.

Smoking profile

This month saw an update to some indicators in in the smoking profile for 2023, these were:

  • Smoking prevalence in adults who are self-reported current smokers was 12.7% for South Tyneside. This is not significantly different from the England average which is 11.6%.
  • Smoking prevalence in adults who are self-reported ex-smokers was 25.4% for South Tyneside. This is not significantly different from the England average which is 25.1%. This was worse than in 2022 where the prevalence in adults for South Tyneside was 28.5%.
  • The smoking prevalence for adults in Routine and Manual occupations was 22.1% in South Tyneside. This is not significantly different from the England average which is 19.5%.

Smoking at time of delivery

This month saw the first release of the quarterly smoking at time of delivery data for 2024 / 25:

  • Both England and South Tyneside have the same rate of smoking at time of delivery (6.3%).
