Fuel Poverty

This indicator release shows the percentage of households considered to be fuel poor. This means if they're living in a property with a fuel poverty energy efficiency rating of band D or below and when they spend the required amount to heat their home, they are left with residual income below the official poverty line.

  • In South Tyneside the percentage of households that are considered fuel poor for 2022 is 10.7%. This is better than the previous year which was 13.9% and the England average for 2022 which is 13.1%.

First time entrants into the youth justice system

This indicator shows the rate of juveniles ages 10 to 17 receiving their first conviction, caution or youth caution per 100,000, now updated to show the figures for 2023.

  • For the first time ever, South Tyneside is significantly better than the England average at a rate of 75.9 per 100,000 compared to the England average of 143.4 per 100,000.
  • The trend of this indicator continues to be decreasing and significantly better, improving on the 2022 rate of 136.5 per 100,000.

Re-offending levels - percentage of offenders who re-offend

This indicator shows the percentage of offenders who reoffend per financial year, now updated for 2021 / 22.

  • In South Tyneside the percentage of reoffenders has decreased from 23.8% in 2020 / 21 to 20.0% in 2021 / 22. This is better than the 2021 / 22 England average of 25%.
