24LD01 - Learning Behaviours - SEMH action research project

Content:

• Exploration of evidence available around learning behaviours
• Exploration of tools and processes to explore school culture and practices
• Guidance on effective implementation and opportunities to plan for positive and sustained change

The programme will consist of 3 face-to-face sessions focused on evidence and reflecting on practice within school:

Session 1:      

• Reflection on current practice and exploring Learning Behaviour evidence

Session 2:      

• Exploration of the culture of learning behaviours in school and exploring SEL (Social Emotional Learning) evidence

Session 3:      

• Exploration of Metacognition evidence and matching key priorities with potential action research projects

There will then be three follow up sessions focused on the individual implementation of the school improvement project in the next academic year:

Session 4:      

• Exploration of school priorities and the opportunity to explore the 'prepare stage' around effective implementation to support participants in developing a plan

Session 5:      

• Opportunity to review and evaluate the school improvement project at a mid-point with discussion and review with colleagues to share good practice

Session 6:      

• Celebration of the school improvement projects with a short presentation from each participant to share good practice from the action research projects

Expected Impact on Schools:

• Staff develop an understanding of learning behaviours and corresponding evidence
• Staff develop an individual school action research project focused on improving learning behaviours and/or wellbeing
• Staff explore a range of tools and strategies to lead and implement change in school

Target Group:

• Senior leaders, heads of departments or key stage leaders from primary, secondary and special schools
• Attendees will need a deep understanding of their organisation and the authority to afford change within it
• The action research project will need to start in September 2024
