Overview

If you are 16 or 17 years old and at risk of becoming homeless, South Tyneside Council can help.

You can view this information in a leaflet.

You can also view our Joint protocol for the assessment of homeless 16 and 17 year olds

What happens first

Contact the council to explain your situation:

We will look at your circumstances to help understand your:

  • accommodation needs
  • support from family
  • financial circumstances
  • other support you may need

Getting housing support

We will review your circumstances to understand how best to support you.

We will advise you on housing options based on your needs. You may be able to claim Universal Credit benefits if you:

  • attend an interview at your local job centre after applying
  • verify your identity with documents like a passport, birth certificate, etc
  • provide proof of housing costs, education status, and other eligibility factors

Visit GOV.UK: Universal Credit for more information on claiming benefits.
