Over 55 per cent of South Tyneside Population Fully Vaccinated

South Tyneside's Covid-19 vaccine programme has reached a new milestone, as over 55% of the borough's adult population has now been vaccinated with their second dose, giving them the best levels of protection.

More than 70,000 residents have received their second dose vaccinations within the local vaccination hubs, with many more people aged 25 and over now starting to receive their invitations to be jabbed.

When invited, people will be able to book at one of the vaccination centres, pharmacy or general practice sites across the region that are available through the national booking service. 

South Tyneside vaccination hubs consist of; Cleadon Park Primary Care Centre, Flagg Court Health Centre, and The Glen Primary Care Centre.

You can also now get vaccinated at South Tyneside's community pharmacies: Edinburgh Road Pharmacy in Jarrow, Simonside Pharmacy in South Shields, Neil Pharmacy in Jarrow and Whiteleas Pharmacy in South Shields.

Cllr. Tracey Dixon, South Tyneside Council Leader said: "It's brilliant to see our community uniting, doctors, nurses, key workers, security and volunteer marshals, everyone has pulled together to achieve this amazing milestone - South Tyneside couldn't be prouder.

"The COVID-19 vaccine has brought hope to everyone in our local communities. It feels like we are moving forwards and the more people that get vaccinated the more positive the future post-covid appears."

Since the vaccination programme commenced mid-December, there has been over 165,000 doses given to residents within South Tyneside.

As the teams work down through the age groups, it is encouraged that people continue to join the millions in getting vaccinated against covid-19.  

Matt Brown, Executive Director of Operations at NHS South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: "The progress we have made has been amazing and I thank everyone involved in the vaccination programme for their support and dedication.

"Remember, getting vaccinated is the only way to protect the people yourself and those you care about and it's important that you also return for your second dose when you are called to ensure you get the higher level of protection."

People are reminded that vaccinations are by appointment only via the national booking service according to priority cohort group. Please only book an appointment if you are in one of the current eligibility groups.
