Overview

A Clean Air Zone was introduced in Newcastle and Gateshead in January 2023.

All non-compliant taxis and private hire vehicles driving into certain areas of Newcastle will be charged, unless they are exempt.

What areas are affected

The zone covers most of Newcastle City Centre as well as routes into the centre over the:

  • Tyne Bridge
  • Swing Bridge
  • High Level Bridge
  • Redheugh Bridge
