This is South Tyneside Festival: Continuing Festivities Long After Jubilee

Anyone missing the festivities, parties and outdoor events that have marked the Queen's Platinum Jubilee can continue the fun well into the summer - thanks to the This Is South Tyneside Festival.

The three-month long free festival is back this year following a two year absence, which is good news for anyone wanting to keep the party spirit alive.

And while everyone's attention has turned to all things British during the recent celebrations, there's the opportunity to continue to feel patriotic, with the return of Proms in the Park.

On 3 July the festival is hosting an afternoon featuring classical and contemporary well-known tunes to be performed live at Bents Park, South Shields, from 3pm to 5.30pm.

One of the highlights of the event is a guest appearance from Felling Male Voice Choir, which celebrated its centenary in 2020.

Music lovers are encouraged to bring deckchairs, picnics and their Union Jacks flags to wave while listening or joining in the singalong.

Proms in the Park is just one part of the packed programme with family friendly shows, a circus, open-air music concerts and seaside street theatre that stretches through to August.

The festival kicks off with the Summer Parade on 2 July and there is a return of the ever-popular Sunday concerts at Bents Park.

One of the most famous faces in the park to look out for will be a headline performance by singer Will Young (10 July).

Other well-known names popping up in the Sunday series will be Ella Henderson and The South (17 July) and a Dance Revival on Sunday 24 July featuring Whigfield, Sonique, D:Ream and Phats and Small, followed by Shalamar and The Fizz (31 July).

Councillor Joan Atkinson, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, with responsibility for Culture, Leisure and the Visitor Economy, said: "Proms in the Park is always a fantastic open-air event. It will be a wonderful continuation of the Jubilee celebrations with people coming together, waving their flags and enjoying an afternoon of much-loved anthems and music from the movies.

"It is an event not to be missed and we would encourage people to come along, join in and enjoy.

"It is just one part of the wider festival programme of free events and activities we have planned in South Tyneside this summer. There really is something for everyone - young or old - as we all pull together as a community to have some much-needed fun."
