Overview

Children's centres are for children under five and their families.

Membership is free and enables you to access a wide range of services for you and your child:

  • Advice on breastfeeding, hygiene, safety, weaning and nutrition
  • Access to a range of activities to enjoy with your child(ren)
  • Affordable childcare from 8am to 6pm
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Family support and home visits
  • Antenatal and post natal advice
  • Parenting support for mothers, fathers and carers ...and much more

HENRY - Healthy familes: Right from the start programme

Henry is an 8 week, free fun programme to give babies and young children 0 to 5 years a good start.

The programme helps the whole family to adopt a healthier lifestyle, creating more opportunities to play with your children, and helps parents to support their children's health and social development.

HENRY also provides 5 workshops, including:

  • Starting solids:
    Taste journey for children who are starting solids. This is a 2 hour long session.
  • Looking after yourself:
    A workshops to maintain positive relationships as a family and provide toolkits to help reduce anxiety and stay calm. This is a 2 hour long session.
  • Understanding behaviour:
    The workshops are a chance to share experiences with a small group of other parents and carers, find new ways of reducing stress and gain new ideas to manage daily family life to get your little ones off to a great start. This is a 2 hour long session.
  • Eat well for less:
    Following these top tips in this workshop will help you keep to a budget and help the whole family eat more healthily. This is a 2 hour long session.
  • Healthy teeth:
    A workshop to help you get ideas to support tooth brushing, get ideas for healthy food swaps and sharing experiences of looking after children's teeth and preventing tooth decay. This is a 2 hour long session.

South Tyneside Libraries early years groups

South Tyneside Libraries run Early Years sessions for children from birth to 4 years including Baby Bounce, Bounce and Wobblies, Wobblies and Wigglies, Jiggle and Wiggle and Peek-a-Book.

The Department for Education (DfE) has published a new guide for parents, produced by Sheringham Nursery School and Children's Centre, which guides parents through what to expect in their child's development.
